Allianz Suisse changes domestic fleet to hybrid vehicles

Thirteen kilometers – this is the average distance driven by an Allianz Suisse vehicle expert per appointment. In the course of a year this adds up to approximately 20,000 km. If previous petrol consumption was more than ten liters, the Toyota Auris hybrid will lower it to four. This could lower CO2 emissions by more than 60 percent, or about 300 tons, yearly.

"As an insurer Allianz Suisse is very strongly affected by climate change because we insure many of the risks resulting from it. We are trying to set a good example by supporting innovative and sustainable technologies ourselves," explains Manfred Knof, CEO of Allianz Suisse, at Emil Frey AG in Safenwil during the hybrid car distribution. Allianz Suisse has set a goal of reducing its own CO2 emission by over 20 percent by 2012. "The switch to hybrid vehicles is a major step toward achieving this goal."

Emil Frey Group and Allianz Suisse have long cooperated in the area of insurance. Allianz Suisse underwrites the insurance policies of vehicles sold by the dealership.

The deciding factors for the choice of fleet vehicle were navigation technology and energy efficiency. The compact hybrid distinguishes itself from other vehicles in its class in both areas. The value, general suitability, economy and environmental friendliness of the car convinced Allianz Suisse.

Thanks to its hybrid engine the Auris boasts an emission level of 89 g/km, the lowest in its class. Its particle and nitric oxide emissions are also far below the level of diesel vehicles. Even the average petrol consumption of 3.8 Liter/100 km is best in class. In contrast to purely electric vehicles, the hybrid electric and petrol motor means the Auris is also capable of long distance travel.

Because of its exceptional traits the Toyota Auris Hybrid was named "Car of the Future" by ADAC in January 2011. The approximately 100 vehicles will be distributed to Allianz Suisse employees in three waves.
