Diversity, equality and inclusion efforts recognized by German Diversity Index with 1st place

Our track record for top rankings in important diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) indices continues: #1 in the German Diversity Index, improving from last year’s strong 2nd place.

The German Diversity Index evaluates the diversity commitment of DAX 40 companies as documented in annual and sustainability reports, as well as a survey. By increasing transparency in reporting and the comparability of companies, BeyondGenderAgenda aims to advance the diversity engagement in our corporate landscape.

Rankings are a valuable instrument to measure our progress and support us in setting the agenda, however, there is more to DE&I than good publicity. It has been shown that diversity leads to a better bottom-line – but how so? Indeed, a diverse workforce holds the potential to create a strong company culture in which everyone can fully develop their talent. Diversity in skills, opinions, and backgrounds has been proven to enhance innovation, cohesion, and quality of work. But the magic only manifests if the people in question feel their knowledge, opinions and uniqueness are valued and diversity is not a tick-box exercise.

Instinctively, we are drawn to people who are like us. Homogenous teams feel more efficient, they progress faster and are quicker with their results. In a diverse team, it can sometimes take longer to find consensus but the results are more robust since they have been challenged from different angles involving a variety of expert backgrounds and ways of thinking. And once you have sampled working in a diverse team, you are unlikely to want it otherwise.

Building a strong culture of equal opportunity starts with us - with action and accountability. Therefore, Allianz has set itself ambitious representation targets for gender, nationalities or ethnicities, generations, LGBTQ+ and disability. *The German Diversity Index is run by BeyondGenderAgenda – a network for DE&I in the German economy which currently covers the dimensions Disability, Ethnicity, Gender, Generation, LGBT+ and Social Mobility.

Our thoughts go out to our Ukrainian and Russian colleagues

In the morning of February 24, 2022, the Board of Management issued the following letter to its global workforce.

Allianz’ insurance entities globally certified for gender equality

At Allianz, we place a lot of emphasis on equality and fairness: Allianz’ insurance entities are now globally EDGE Assess Certified. The certification covers almost 80 percent of Allianz Group’s global headcount and 68 individual entities.

Women in leadership: Why representation matters

Allianz has prioritized diverse representation which is evident in its ongoing leadership appointments. Over the course of 2021, six women were appointed to the CEO positions of various Allianz businesses. We asked four of these newly appointed CEOs to reflect on what it means to them and on why this is important to Allianz.
