The Dow Jones Sustainability Index rates companies based on their economic, social and environmental performance. Following its 2007 annual review, Dow Jones again recognized Allianz for its excellent environmental performance, based on the company's strategic approach in tackling climate change related challenges.
Examples of strategic initiatives: Allianz founded its own unit to address the opportunities and challenges climate change brings to the financial services sector. Together with the WWF, Allianz published an "Agenda for Action" in 2005, and implemented this action plan in subsequent years.

Confirmation that Allianz is on the right track
Allianz's ranking reflects the successful implementation of key initiatives such as the Allianz climate strategy, addressing the challenge of demographic change and a strong environmental policy and management system. Special acknowledgement was given to Allianz's focus on innovation as a fundamental business driver, its ability to attract talent, and its excellent human capital development capabilities.
Lutz Cleemann, Chairman of the Allianz Sustainability Strategy Team, sees the rating as recognition of Allianz Group's efforts. "We have achieved the top rating which proves that we have channeled our efforts in the right direction: clear and transparent communication, the code of conduct, attention towards emerging risks in the Group risk policy and anchoring sustainability aspects, such as climate change, within the different business lines," Cleemann says.
Based on its high ratings, Allianz is included in every third socially responsible investment (SRI) fund worldwide.

International benchmark
The Dow Jones Sustainability Index Rating was established in 1999 and is an international benchmark for the sustainable performance of companies. The Dow Jones Sustainability Index World is the benchmark for many investors focusing on sustainable and future-orientated companies.
