“We are very excited that the Allianz Arena has once again been chosen to host an international football competition” commented Dr. Christian Deuringer, Allianz Global Head of Brand Management, following the announcement. “The stadium is an ideal setting for this first pan-continental European championship.”
The city of Munich and the Allianz Arena demonstrated their credentials as tournament hosts during the 2006 World Cup, when Allianz’s famed stadium staged six matches, all in front of capacity crowds. The aim is to replicate this success in 2020.
As expected, both the semi-finals and final matches were awarded to England, with the climax of the tournament to be staged at London’s Wembley Stadium. The Deutsche Fussball Bund (German Football Organization) will likely bid to host the entire 2024 edition of the European championship.
