Q&A: 20 years of Allianz and the Paralympic Movement

Allianz is marking 20 years of partnership with the Paralympic Movement. The anniversary highlights a longterm commitment that began in 2006 and has grown from early support into a strategic partnership focused on visibility, inclusion and professionalization of para sport.
The partnership began in 2006, following Allianz’s first engagement with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the German Disabled Sports Association (DBS) during the Turin Winter Games.
What started as early support developed into a cocreated partnership. In 2011, Allianz became the IPC’s first International Partner, shifting the relationship from patronage to shared planning, service offerings and longterm storytelling between Paralympic Games cycles.
Allianz is the Official Insurer of the Olympic and Paralympic Movements for the period 2021 to 2032. The partnership builds on the Paralympic collaboration and combines risk expertise with engagement initiatives that support safe, successful Games.
At Milano Cortina 2026, Allianz is the Presenting Partner of the Paralympic Torch Relay. The Torch Relay represents preparation, community participation and the transition from planning to performance in the leadup to the Games.
Allianz focuses on yearround impact through initiatives that extend inclusion and opportunity into everyday life. This includes the MoveNow program, which promotes physical activity and mental resilience for young people, and financial literacy initiatives supporting Paralympic athletes’ longterm security.
Sustained partnerships help build visibility and understanding between Games, not only during major events. Over two decades, Allianz’s consistent engagement has contributed to broader awareness, improved professionalism and stronger foundations for the Movement’s future growth.
Looking ahead to LA 2028, the French Alps 2030 and Brisbane 2032, the partnership will continue to evolve by addressing new challenges, expanding access in underrepresented regions and ensuring that progress at elite level also strengthens grassroots structures.
