Allianz recognized with Europrivacy certification as first insurer

Allianz has achieved a major milestone in its ongoing commitment to privacy. Last week, the company celebrated the handover of the European Data Protection Seal, the Europrivacy certification. This recognizes its work as a leading player in the insurance sector consistently prioritizing a robust privacy framework with the highest standards.

The Europrivacy certification, currently the only certification recognized by all EU member states for the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR),  has gone to Allianz in seven categories for its “Targets of Evaluation” in scope, focusing on key processes across its operations:

  • Three processes in Allianz Austria: Property & Casualty and Health retail products, Life retail products, and its Home insurance online journey.
  • Three processes in Allianz Italy: Underwriting and Sales, Claims, and the Business Intelligence platform.
  • Allianz’s Global Online Recruitment process.

The certificates can also be viewed on the Europrivacy website:

The certification represents a key differentiator for Allianz, reinforcing the trust of customers, investors, business partners, employees and supervisory authorities. In an era where data breaches and privacy concerns command huge public attention, this certification signals Allianz's commitment to rising to this challenge and protecting personal data at every level. Allianz is not just meeting minimum requirements but exceeding them, setting a benchmark for excellence in privacy.

Furthermore, as Allianz Chief Group Privacy Officer Philipp Raether underlines, the Europrivacy certification provides Allianz with a tool to mitigate potential risks. It verifies that Allianz has taken every reasonable step to ensure the security of data but also that the company has processes in place to mitigate impacts in the unlikely case an incident does occur. In sum, the certification contributes to Allianz’s position as the go-to brand in uncertain times.

Zoltan Karaszi, CEO of the auditor TAMCert which issued the certification, noted, “Allianz has acted with exceptional professionalism in collaborating to get to this point. They are setting an example for companies everywhere.”

Ekaterina Kasyanova from the Europrivacy organization added, “Following years of development, Europrivacy – the official European Data Protection Seal – enables companies to verify the legal conformity of their data processing and obtain formal certifications under Art. 42 GDPR as part of the certification process. I’m pleased to see that Allianz is among the first companies overall to receive the Seal, showing they are truly a front-runner in data privacy.”

Barbara Karuth-Zelle, Member of the Board of Management of Allianz SE and Group COO, concluded, “While we at Allianz are immensely proud of this recognition, I see this as an achievement first and foremost for our customers. Allianz will continue to seek further certifications and set new standards in data protection to further build their trust and provide a them with a clear choice of partners to secure their future.”
