Allianz Safety Sled: Pioneering Safety in Bobsleigh Competitions

We are partnering with the German Bobsleigh, Luge, and Skeleton Federation (BSD) to make bobsleigh safer for athletes. As a first step, the innovative Allianz Safety Sled was developed to collect and share current track conditions.

Building on these insights, the Allianz Center for Technology (AZT) is applying its expertise in car occupant safety to help design new protection systems, including the pioneering HIP (Head Impact Protection) System . Together, Allianz and the BSD aim to establish a global safety standard in bobsleigh – demonstrating our shared commitment to athlete protection and innovation in this fast-paced Olympic winter sport.

An industry first: The Allianz Safety Sled prototype, equipped with an advanced system for head protection, was unveiled to the public for the first time.

The new safety concepts HIP (head protection) and PASS (Passive Athlete Safety System) significantly increase the safety of athletes after a crash. The aim is to have both systems in use by mid-2028 at the latest.

The Allianz Safety Sled report highlights key performance metrics for athletes at the IBSF World Cups. All current track conditions are uploaded in real-time before the race.
