Allianz Climate Risk Award

Launched in 2017, the Allianz Climate Risk Award celebrates scientists at the start of their career whose work sheds light on the nexus between climate change and extreme weather events. In 2025, we are adding a new category, the Allianz Trade Award, focusing on how climate risk is affecting global trade.

The Allianz Climate Risk Award is a global award open to PhD candidates and post-doctoral researchers whose research focuses on:

  • Understanding and mitigating the risk of extreme weather events that are intensified by climate change;
  • Fostering resilience by applying technological solutions.
  • 10 applicants are shortlisted by a jury of experts from industry and academia and their work is published in a Compendium on Allianz Re’s website. Out of the 10 shortlisted applicants, the top 3 finalists are invited to Munich, Germany, to present their research project at the Allianz Climate Risk Award Event. The winners of the Allianz Climate Risk Award 2025 and the Allianz Trade Award will receive a monetary award of EUR 7.000. The other finalists will receive a monetary award of EUR 3.000 each.
Information on the application process for the 2026 Allianz Climate Risk Award will be published in the spring of 2026.
