Allianz Climate Risk Award

The Allianz Climate Risk Award connects leading climate risk researchers with the insurance industry — from scientific insight to real-world resilience. Launched in 2017, the Allianz Climate Risk Award celebrates scientists at the start of their career whose work sheds light on the nexus between climate change and extreme weather events.

The Allianz Climate Risk Award is Allianz Re's flagship annual program supporting scientific research that helps us better understand how climate change shapes extreme weather events and how to foster resilience against climate-related risks.

In 2026, we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the award — marking a decade of commitment to advancing climate research. The program now operates across three tracks: the Global Award, the Thematic Spotlight: Allianz Trade, and the new Regional Spotlight: Asia

The Allianz Climate Risk Award is a global award open to PhD candidates and post-doctoral researchers whose research focuses on:

  • Understanding and mitigating the risk of extreme weather events that are intensified by climate change;
  • Fostering resilience by applying technological solutions.

Core of your application should be a brief (max. 800 words) non-technical essay that outlines your research idea and highlights central findings. Please refer to the Compendium 2025 to find some examples.

To submit your application, please send the filled out and signed forms as well as the required supporting documents, incl. essay, CV, reference letter, to climaterisk-award@allianz.com. We're looking forward to receiving your application and wish you good luck!
