Building communities through sport

As an Official Partner, Allianz is supporting the nine Olympic and two Paralympic sports, their federations, and all participating athletes. This includes organizing a Hackathon for more than 100 participants from the Young Leaders Forum at the European Championships, as we work together to create initiatives to get young people back into sport. This is the latest in a series of 24 initiatives from Allianz’s "MoveNow" program, a commitment to move people of the next generation across the globe in the upcoming months until the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024.

Preparing athletes for life after competition

Allianz’s long-standing belief in the power of sport to create a better tomorrow also includes preparing athletes for life after competition. Through mentorship in our Buddy Program, Allianz colleagues explore different development topics with athletes over a six-month period. The program is onto its second edition in 2022, reaching more than 70 athletes and employees across 27 markets. Eight of our Buddy Program athletes are competing at the European Championships in athletics, canoe sprint, and triathlon events.

“Allianz takes pride in partnering with sports events worldwide, this time right in our home of Munich,” said Serge Raffard, Allianz Group Strategy, Marketing Distribution Officer. “The European Championships is a time for bringing people together. We’re enjoying seeing our athlete ambassadors compete in Munich and congratulations to Anthony Jeanjean and Jan Helmich on their early medal success. Also, thank you to the volunteers, including our employees, who are making everyone at the Championships feel so welcomed.”

Leaving a legacy

Similar to making the Olympic Games more sustainable, existing facilities have been repurposed for the events at the Olympic Park to restrict the carbon footprint and minimize environmental impact (our sustainability strategy for Munich 2022 - European Championships Munich 2022). The exhibitions at the European Championships in sports, culture, architecture and design aim to invoke a sense of remembrance and togetherness in democracy. The first Olympic Games in Munich in 1972 was a historic turning point for post-war Germany as an opportunity to be seen as increasingly cosmopolitan, open-minded and democratic. The European Championships commemorate the impact of these events, as well as honor the memory of the Israeli team tragedy in 1972.

The city is celebrating the 50th anniversary of hosting the Olympic games in Munich through a diverse program with the motto “Towards the future 1972-2022-2072” - ‘Auf dem Weg in die Zukunft 1972-2022-2072' in exhibitions and events on public and digital forums. Importantly, the memory of the 1972 attack on the Israeli Olympic team will also be reflected in the program.

As the Worldwide Insurance Partner of the Olympic and Paralympic Movements since 2018 and as an Official Partner of the European Championships Munich 2022, Allianz continues to support the world’s biggest sports events, bringing people together in peace and celebration. Transcending age, race, religion, and politics, sports culture withstands the test of time and unites us through shared values.
