Sports can change lives and foster a sense of belonging. So can faith. With Allianz’s support, the first ‘Sport at the Service of Humanity’ global conference brings together 150 leaders, sportspersons and influencers to discuss how faith and sport can improve lives and bring about social change.

The three-day conference aims to define the principles of compassion, respect, love, enlightenment, balance and joy, which will guide the Humanity Sports Club set up by Allianz to reach out to the youth.

“Sport helps youth find courage, resilience and inspiration – and to overcome barriers to social inclusion,” said Allianz CEO Oliver Bäte. “That’s why we strongly support this conference and the mission of the Humanity Sports Club, which will promote the transformational power of sport worldwide.”

The conference began on October 5 with Pope Francis, United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach being special guests at the opening ceremony.

In his keynote address, Bäte emphasized Allianz’s belief in the transformative power of sport to bring out humanity's best and most courageous attributes.

“We are strongly committed to supporting and amplifying the messages from the conference and helping bring them to life via the Humanity Sports Club,” he said.

The conference ends on October 7.
