Climate policy failed - straight ahead into the catastrophe?

How can civil society shape the ecological reconstruction of our industrial societies? What new alliances between progressive companies and private initiatives, investors and consumers are needed to create the necessary pressure for change?

These questions are to be discussed on Sunday, November 21st, 2010; 11 a.m., Allianz Stiftungsforum, Pariser Platz 6 in Berlin:

  • Günther Bachmann, Secretary-General of the German Council for Sustainable Development
  • Claudia Langer, Founder of sustainable consumption website utopia.de
  • Claus Leggewie, Director of the Cultural Institute Essen and advisor to the German government
  • Jo Leinen, Chairman of the European Parliament Environment Committee
  • Martin Kaiser, Greenpeace International Climate Policy Coordinator
  • Moderation: Harald Schumann (Der Tagesspiegel)

This event is part of the DEBATE ON EUROPE 2010 series, an initiative of the Allianz Cultural Foundation in cooperation with the State Opera House at the Schiller Theater, the Komische Oper, the Deutsches Theater Berlin, the Allianz Foundation for Sustainability, Der Tagesspiegel and Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg. The media partners are Der Tagesspiegel, rbb Fernsehen and rbb Kulturradio.

The Allianz Cultural Foundation was established in 2000 by Allianz SE with the aim of promoting cultural integration in Europe. One way in which it does this is by initiating and sponsoring Europe-wide exchange and encounter projects for the next generation of young people involved in the arts, culture and education. With its DEBATE ON EUROPE series, the foundation wants to foster the creation of a civil society in Europe.
