"The EU's large-scale eastward enlargement of 2004 allowed Europe to finally catch up with the times", is how President of the German Bundestag Norbert Lammert began his speech to open the "EU10x10 – Europe's Wider Horizon" event on June 3 at the Allianz Forum in Berlin. The event marked the ten-year anniversary of the accession of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Cyprus to the EU. The Allianz Cultural Foundation invited the countries celebrating this anniversary to the Allianz Forum in Berlin one week after the European elections.
