The high point: A public master class with Lang Lang on the piano at the Munich College of Music and Performing Arts (Hochschule für Musik und Theater München) on November 6th. Days of intensive practice have been leading up to the rehearsal with the star pianist for an entire afternoon with the talented twelve before a delighted audience as part of his Junior Music Camp.
Before this, Junior Music Camp participants had received individual piano lessons from Professor Martina Bauer and Professor Wolfram Schmitt-Leonardy from the Youth Academy at the Munich College of Music and Performing Arts. The Steinway-Haus Munich presented the perfect setting for working together. Additional planned activities ensured they had sufficient time to meet, network and relax after rehearsals.
"The standard of applications really impressed me," said Lang Lang. "It is wonderful to see how big the passion and talent of young musicians is all over the world and I am looking forward to our time together in Munich."
The Lang Lang International Music Foundation brought together highly talented young pianists from all over the world for the first Junior Music Camp in Munich from November 3 to November 8, 2013. As a partner, Allianz supports the series of Junior Music Camps which were launched this year.
The Lang Lang International Music Foundation received nearly 300 applications from 43 countries in the past two months.
The jury of international experts headed by Lang Lang had the difficult task of selecting the finalists for Munich. Applicants up to 14 years of age had each previously sent in a video with their personal motivation as young musicians, as well as a video with a presentation of a piece they had selected themselves. Finally, twelve pianists from seven countries were invited to the Junior Music Camp. These young people come from Great Britain, Canada, Germany, Hungary, Spain, the United States and China.
