After you have found the perfect job on our Global Job Search, it’s time to work on your application. If a cover letter is required, it should be adapted to the position for which you are applying. Please be sure to emphasize the skills, experiences and competencies that make you the ideal candidate for the job. The best cover letters are short and to the point. A few questions that your cover letter should answer:

  • Why do you want to work for Allianz?
  • Why are you interested in the advertised position?
  • What skills make you the ideal candidate for the position?

Resume

Your resume is the key to a good application. A well-structured and precise resume will help you emphasize your professional experiences and successes. The type size should be clearly legible, and the overall layout and formatting should be simple. Start with your personal details, followed by your education or professional training, professional experience, internships, foreign languages, international experience, other activities and hobbies.

  • Personal data: Please be sure to include your name and all important contact details such as your e-mail address, phone number and address in your resume as well as your cover letter.
  • Training/education/qualifications: Your resume should accurately reflect your education along with your achievements, such as the degrees, certificates and grades earned.
  • Professional experience: List your previous jobs and the duration of employment with each company. Summarize important details on your successes in each position. Be sure to describe what impact these had on your company.
  • Time-saving tip: After logging in to our Global Job Search, you can also import your profile data from social networks such as LinkedIn, Xing and Facebook.
  • Before you submit your application, don’t forget your attachments. References, internship confirmations, transcripts of grades and any other relevant written documentation are necessary to substantiate your qualifications and experience.

How to prepare

Learn as much as you can about Allianz as a company and its business areas, as well as our corporate culture and Leadership Values. Also, you can take a look at our HR Fact Book. Please be sure that you know about the latest developments in your field, industry and market.

Familiarize yourself with the position you are applying for by learning about the main tasks and responsibilities involved. And be aware that the Allianz Group structure is far more complex than it appears on the surface. For example, there are around 30 Allianz subsidiaries in Germany alone. Be sure to take a little time to learn about the Group’s structure, and figure out how the subsidiary to which you are applying is connected to the rest of the Group. You can find an overview of the Allianz structure here.

Be prepared to show us why you want to work for us, why we should hire you, and what experiences and skills make you the ideal candidate for the position.

In addition to evaluating your professional skills (e.g. computer and project management skills), interviews are designed to assess your key competencies and ensure that they reflect the guiding principles of our company.

Take the time to ask yourself a few questions before the interview, including:

What have I done so far?

  • Naturally, you know the information in your resume like the back of your hand. You should not be surprised when we ask you questions about the individual jobs. You should be able to explain any gaps in employment/education or unexpected changes in your career path.
  • When the interviewer asks you about yourself, what do you want to say?

What are my skills?

  • What are your special strengths – potentially from an outside perspective? You should also have an appropriate answer at hand if the interviewer asks you about your weaknesses.
  • How well do you work as part of a team? What experience have you had in working in teams and on projects so far?
  • How do you handle critical situations or conflicts? How do you contribute to team results?

What do I want? What is important to me?

  • What is important to you in your work? What do you want to avoid at all costs?
  • What are your professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five years?

What to expect during the interview

Please answer the questions carefully and to the best of your knowledge. You should always take a moment to consider what the interviewer actually wants to know.

Provide brief, precise answers. If you need a little time to think about your answer, feel free to take it. Be sure to substantiate your answers with specific examples from your previous professional or educational experience.

We encourage you to be actively involved in this interview. Please don’t hesitate to ask questions about the position and Allianz as a company. Some questions to think about:

Where will I work?

  • How is the department structured? How is the work divided? How many employees are there?
  • What is the corporate culture and management style like?
  • What issues and developments have affected Allianz in recent years?
  • What does the company planning/strategy look like for the next several years?

How can I contribute to the Group’s success?

  • What specific duties could I fulfill?
  • What kind of responsibilities would I have?
  • What would my core competencies be?
  • Which strengths and experiences could be especially interesting for my future work at Allianz?

How would I benefit from this position?

  • Log in to your profile.
  • What measures are in place to ease my transition into the company?
  • How would I be promoted? What are the requirements?

After the interview

Before you leave, ask the interviewer about the next steps and when you might expect an answer. Be sure to call or send an e-mail if you don’t hear anything during this time. Normally, one of our recruiters will let you know how the selection process is coming along within two weeks. Please keep in mind that you can easily track the status of your application(s) in your profile area on your own after logging in to our Global Job Search.

It is important to us that you get the best possible start at Allianz. Onboarding means more to us than just giving you a warm welcome. We make sure that you get all of the tools and resources you need in order to get started and feel at home in your department.

Onboarding activities may vary depending on the Allianz subsidiary and country. They range from welcoming events to tours and trainings. Some Allianz entities will also designate a “buddy” for you – a colleague to assist you during your first days and weeks.
