Allianz.com News: Mr. Perlet, Allianz has published several key indicators for the first quarter. How did the quarter go for Allianz?
Perlet: We started the year off well and were able to improve the result. For example, quarterly net income for the Group exceeded the figure for the first quarter of 2005 by over 30 percent, reaching approximately 1.8 billion euros. There was also a significant improvement in operating profit, while the growth in total revenues are within the range of what we expected.
? How have these improvements been achieved? Which segments have contributed to them?
Perlet: All four operating segments have contributed to these improvements. This is especially true for Dresdner Bank, which has produced a strong quarter. The positive trend in the capital markets has very significantly contributed to this. Dresdner Bank in particular, as well as parts of the life insurance business, have profited from these positive conditions.

Helmut Perlet: "The first quarter is making a disproportionately large contribution to annual net income"
? What are you expecting for the year as a whole?
Perlet: We still expect to achieve an annual net income for 2006 of 4.9 billion euros. The first quarter will make a disproportionately large contribution to this, which is why you mustn't simply take this result and multiply it by four.
Alongside the positive trend in the capital markets, there were no significant claims from natural catastrophes. Also, in this first quarter, we have already managed to realize a disproportionate part of the capital gains target for the entire year.
