Michael LaRocco has been named president and chief executive officer of Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, a six-billion-dollar property and casualty insurance firm. His appointment was made by the company’s board of directors.

LaRocco will start on March 17 and will report to Chuck Kavitsky, president and chief executive officer of Allianz of America, parent of Fireman’s Fund. He will also serve on the International Executive Committee of Allianz SE.

An insurance executive with nearly 30 years of experience, LaRocco, 51, last served as president and chief operating officer of Seattle-based Safeco, a five-billion-dollar property and casualty insurer focused on personal and business lines. During his five years at Safeco, he helped to significantly strengthen the position of the company in the market.

Prior to Safeco, LaRocco spent eight years at Geico Corporation in senior management roles, including regional vice president with full responsibility for the 1.2 billion dollar Northeast region. His background also includes seven years tenure at Superior Insurance where, among other responsibilities, he headed underwriting operations and customer service. He began his insurance career at Progressive Corporation, working eight years in a variety of management roles.

LaRocco holds a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from Ohio State University and an M.B.A. from the University of Tampa. He is married with two daughters and will relocate with his family from Seattle to the San Francisco Bay area.
